In the last decade or so the face of country music has changed considerably. In the past, country music was whiny and predictable. But with today’s country artists such as Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Vince Gill, Tim McGraw, and others more and more young people are turning to
this genre of music. For the best in country and western nightlife in Newfoundland, our readers have some suggestions.
Avalon: Tol’s Time Out Lounge squeaks out a first-place finish. Second-place honours is handed out to the Sundance. Fabulous 50s takes home third-place honours on this year’s ballot.

There aren’t many people who wouldn’t like to cut loose and kick up their heels on a dance floor every now and again. So if you’d like to dig out your dancing shoes and give your moves a whirl,

Avalon: Club Etomik on George Street takes the dance trophy this year. Tol’s Time Out Lounge settles into second place. Third place is awarded to Fabulous 50s.
Off the Avalon: Shooters in Clarenville scores top marks to take first place. Second-place is awarded to Gander’s Legends.
Bay View in Lethbridge collects enough of the remaining votes to capture third place.

Darts Club
For decades, darts has always been a favourite pastime in Newfoundland and Labrador. In fact, in recent times it’s become increasingly popular across the country. This province is home to some of the best dart players the country has to offer. If you’d like to try your hand at darts, be sure to zero in on one of
the Best of winners.
Avalon: The CEI Club shoots a bulls eye to take top spot on this year’s ballot. Stanley’s Pub throws a respectable second. Third-place honours go to Loins Club.
Off the Avalon: Stephenville is the town to head to and the Brown Derby is the club to head to off the Avalon for the ultimate in a darts club. Second-place marks are awarded to Shooters in Salt Pond.

Folk/Traditional Club
Among the things our fair province is famous for is our wonderful array of folk/traditional artists.
Newfoundland Herald readers have strong opinions when it comes to where to go to hear the best in this musical genre.
Avalon: O’Reilly’s finishes the race in first place. Bridie Molloy’s slides in to second place. And, third place is awarded to Erins.
Off the Avalon: When it’s fine folk/traditional music voters in this region want, they head to Mingles in Grand Falls-Windsor. Penny’s in Bishop’s Falls finishes in second place.

You love to head out after work for a few sociable drinks with your co-workers or buddies. But, unfortunately, your budget is tight and you can’t afford the going price of many beverages. Don’t despair many of our province’s fine establishments offer discounted bar prices during their happy hour.
Avalon: George Street is the place to head for the best in happy hours. Taking first place is the Sundance. O’Reilly’s received enough votes for a silver finish. And Greensleeves collects enough votes for a third-place finish on this year’s ballot.
Off the Avalon: When voters in this region want the best happy hour can offer they make their way to Reflections in Gander.
Glynmill Inn in Corner Brook comes out in second place on this year’s ballot.

Live Rock
If you wanted to listen to taped music and enjoy a few cold ones, you’d stay home. But when it’s live rock music you crave in the company of friends, what hot night club should you check out.
Newfoundland Herald readers have some suggestions for you to consider.
Avalon: Edging past the other competitors, and collecting enough votes for a gold medal performance is the Fat Cat. Second-place honours goes to Junctions. While Trapper Johns rounds out the pack in third place.
Off the Avalon: The race was tight for a great Live Rock Club in this region.
Razoolie's in Stephenville squeaked out a first-place finish in this category. Mingles in Grand Falls-Windsor takes home silver. While the bronze medallion is awarded to Playhouse in Clarenville.

Pool sharks and ordinary folk alike want a great pool/billiards place to head when the urge to rack ’em up strikes. The next time you want to sink a black ball, be sure to consider one of the Best of winners.
Avalon: Dooly’s, with several locations throughout the region captures first place. West Side Charlies scratches the surface for a second-place finish. In third place you’ll find the Brass Rack.
Off the Avalon: West Side Charlies in Marystown is the first choice for pool/billiards. Rounding out the ballot in this region are Classic Clue in Gander and McNally’s in Clarenville in second and third place respectively.

If you’re single, you know just how hard it is to meet someone. If you are on the hunt for the perfect soul mate, then you should head to one of the many fine singles bars located across this exquisite province.
