Like your mother always told you, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So whether it's something small like tea and toast or a hearty feed of bacon and eggs, start your day off right. Try one of these places for this year's "Best Of" winners.
Avalon: The top choice for this year's ballot goes to A & W. Heating up second place is the Heritage Bakeshop and Delicatessen while Baxter's Family Restaurant comes in for a third place finish.
Off the Avalon: When readers off the Avalon get hungry, they go to Country Kitchen. Bairds is second choice with P J Billingtons coming in third.

Buffet
Everyone loves a buffet and whether you just can't decide what you want or you're 'starved' and want everything, fill your plate at one of these fine restaurants, whose buffet our readers voted the 'Best of.'
Avalon: For its variety and quality, Ponderosa Steakhouse is number one. The Battery came in second place while Emerald Palace picks up third place among Chinese food lovers.
Off the Avalon: Looking for a delicious variety of foods, then look no further than Robin Hood's Restaurant in Grand Falls-Windsor. Our readers voted Sinbads in Gander as second choice and Jennifer's in Corner Brook as their third favourite place to eat.

If you're looking for a fine feast of chicken balls, egg rolls, beef and broccoli or one of the other tasty treats of the Orient, why not give one of our winners a try?
Avalon: For a mouth-watering taste delight, the Emerald Palace was voted first place in "the best of" Chinese food. New Moon Restaurant on Topsail Road won second place and Lucky's, also on Topsail Road, takes third.
Off the Avalon: Chinese food fans off the Avalon choose Taiwan Restaurant in Grand Falls-Windsor as their number one choice. East Ocean in Gander finished second followed by Wongs in Marystown.

Fine Restaurant
Fine dining is always a great idea if you want to celebrate a special occasion and if you're looking for first-class service, a gourmet meal and a selection of fine wines, try one of these fine establishments.
Avalon: For the best fine dining, voters on the Avalon suggest the Stone House on Kenna's Hill as the best. Second is Woodstock Colonial Inn located in Topsail, and Bianca's on Water Street takes third.
Off the Avalon: Jennifer's in Corner Brook is our first place winner for fine dining, followed closely by the Mt. Peyton in Grand Falls-Windsor. Sinbads in Gander takes third place

Fish and Chips
Newfoundland is known for its unique cuisine. One of the most popular dishes is 'fish and chips'. If you're craving a traditional Newfoundland scoff, you can choose from these award-winning places.
Avalon: The number one choice for fish and chips is Ches's. Next in popularity is the Big R as second and Johnny's as the third place choice.
Off the Avalon: The best fish and chips Off the Avalon can be found at Lilly Landing in Gander. The second best, and still tantalizingly good, is Bairds in Grand Falls-Windsor, followed by Scotties in Burin.

From momma's secret recipe to the best legs in town, fried chicken is always sure to please. If you feel like chicken tonight, take note of what our readers say and head for one of these favourites: Avalon: For the fourth consecutive year it's the Colonel's secret recipe - Kentucky Fried Chicken that receives top honours from the Herald's voters. Mary Brown's follows closely in second place,
while B & B on Blackmarsh Road is third.
Off the Avalon: It's a close race but off the Avalon Mary Brown's chicken is the big winner followed closely by KFC.

There's nothing to get the old taste buds going like a juicy hamburger, topped with fried onions, and the works or just plain old ketchup. You're sure to get just want you want at the following locations:
Avalon: McDonalds outweighs the competition and receives top honour this year. A & W comes in a close second while the every popular Burger King is third.
Off the Avalon: According to our voters, McDonald's hamburgers reign supreme Off the Avalon this year, followed by A & W in second and Hiscock's in Grand Falls-Windsor is third.

When you think of Italian food, usually it's pizza and pasta that comes to mind, but there are many other appetizing dishes that you could choose from at these award-winning places.
Avalon: For the fourth year in a row, East Side Mario's is the number one place our voters visit for Italian cuisine. Second place goes to Pasta Plus and third place to Bruno's on Water Street in St. John's.
Off the Avalon: The number one winner is Pizza Delight in Gander, followed closely by Greco in Grand Falls-Windsor and Magro's in Lewisporte is third.

Like it hot and spicy - then try the taste that comes from South of the border at one of these fine restaurants:
Avalon: For the second year in a row, Casa Grande of St. John's captures first place, while Quintanas of St. John's is a close second. Zapata's is the third place choice.
Off the Avalon: If its Mexican food you crave, then try our reader's first place choice - Jungle Jim's in Corner Brook, or the second place winner - Hotel Gander in Gander.

Family Restaurant captures the first place rank. And again Donovan's Irving holds onto second place while Hotel Newfoundland comes in a third.
Off the Avalon: Hiscock's in Grand Falls-Windsor is the winner this year, followed by Baird's in Grand Falls-Windsor in second place and Viscounts in Gander as third.

No matter how you top it, pizza is a favourite of all ages. With all the new varieties like meat-lovers, veggie, stuffed crust and others - you just gotta have pizza. Here are this year's favourite pizza places:
Avalon: Pizza Hut is the crowd favourite, while Pizza Experts is a close second. Pizza Pros was third choice.
Off the Avalon: Pizza Delight wins the crown for the third year in a row. Greco in Grand Falls-Windsor is second while Domino's in Stephenville follows in third.

Newfoundland is known worldwide for its seafood - cod, salmon, crab, lobster and others. So if you would like to enjoy a seafood dishes, here are the places our readers selected as the best.
Avalon: Once again this year, The Cellar finishes in first place with seafood lovers while The Hungry Fisherman reels in a second place finish.
Off the Avalon: The Irving Big Stop serves up the best seafood. Mrs. B's in Marystown is second with Dock-side in Botwood finishing third.

Avalon: For the best subs in town it's Subway for the third year in a row. Mr. Sub has earned second place honours while Chilly Willys is in third.
Off the Avalon: No matter how you say it, the best subs off the Avalon are found at Subway, while the second best can be found at Mr. Sub.

Avalon: For the second year, The Sundance wins the title, while The Battery is a close second. Third place favourite is Baxter's.
Off the Avalon: When brunch is what you're looking for, check out the first-place winner, Jennifer's in Corner Brook. Robin Hood's in Grand Falls-Windsor is in second place while Admirals, also in the great town of Grand Falls-Windsor, is third.

Avalon: For the third year, Donovan's Irving is rated as the best while Travellers is a second and The Crossroads finishes third.
Off the Avalon: Once again, Irving Mainway is our first place winner in this category. Ultramar, located in Goobies, takes second place while third place honours goes to the Jigger in Clarenville.
